Detailed Description of the Records
Subcollection:
Administration

Extent: 415 files
The Administration files document how JDC executives and staff members identified, prioritized, managed and conducted
the organization’s global programmatic operations in the aftermath of World War II (WWII) and the Holocaust. These materials reflect the deliberations of JDC’s governing bodies and committees in implementing JDC’s rescue, relief, and reconstruction initiatives around the world, including: its extensive slate of emigration services for refugees and Holocaust survivors; its support for yeshivot and other religious institutions in the new State of Israel; and its partnerships with other Jewish and general relief organizations, including the American Council of Voluntary Agencies for Foreign Service, the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, the Intergovernmental Committee on Refugees, the International Red Cross, the National Refugee Service of New York, and the South African Jewish War Appeal; and its support for the establishment of restitution organizations to reconstruct Jewish life in Europe.

Records in this subcollection include: meeting minutes and transcripts from the wide array of committees charged with implementing JDC’s global mandate, including the Cultural, Medical Advisory, and Reconstruction Committees; reports from annual meetings in New York and gatherings of JDC’s country directors in Europe; by-laws; public relations materials, including materials produced for JDC’s 33rd anniversary in 1948; budgetary resolutions and amendments; and the working files of JDC staff stationed in diverse regions across Africa, Europe, and South America.

Arrangement
The Administration subcollection is organized into seven series. Within each series, folders are organized alphabetically; within individual folders, documents are generally organized chronologically.

The list of series is:
