Subject Matter

Extent: 403 files
The Subject Matter subcollection
documents the range of JDC’s global programmatic operations in the immediate aftermath of World War II and the Holocaust. These initiatives include, most notably, its large-scale relief
and reconstruction efforts
to reconstitute European Jewish life;
its response to the myriad legal complications regarding missing persons and heirless property
which developed in the wake of the Holocaust;
and its organization and implementation of a vast array of resources, including medical care,
community health resources, loans and scholarships,
emigration assistance, and educational resources–including early childhood services
in Iran, Europe and North Africa, and support for yeshivot in Palestine and, after 1948, the State of Israel–for Jewish communities around the
world.
