Record Group: Denmark
The Denmark record group covers the years 1945-1954, and includes 30folders in one box, about half a linear foot of material, divided intothree series: Administration, Subject Matter and Organizations. Most ofthe correspondence and cables concern the interaction between the JDCoffice in Copenhagen and the Danish Jewish community in a cooperativeeffort to help survivors and displaced persons arriving in Denmarkduring and after WWII. Postwar activities begin with an appeal to theDanish Jewish community and Danish Government to accept a limited numberof TB cases. Later this is expanded beyond medical care to includeprograms for rehabilitation and education in cooperation with ORT.Financial documents in the folders show that funds were granted to thelocal Jewish community to implement these programs and projects. Thematerial also includes documentation on all administrative stepsinvolved in the closure of the office in Copenhagen. Six of the folderscontain printed pamphlets published by The International Labour Office. They focus on the rights of workers in agriculture, forestry andhorticulture; commercial establishments and offices; factories andworkshops; and on merchant vessels. In addition, the folders haveinformation on Danish laws regarding declarations of death for missingpersons; settlement of a Danish claim for reimbursement of funds usedfor Hachsharah and Youth Aliyah during the war years; emigrationservices for displaced persons; as well as material on the Jewishsection of the Royal Danish Library.
