Finding Aid
Subcollection: Countries and Regions

Extent: 1,139 files
The Countries and Regions subcollection includes material on 83 separate countries and regions at the record group level. These records, which include correspondence, cables, country reports, statistical abstracts, and meeting minutes, testify the scope of JDC’s relief and renewal initiatives dedicated to rebuilding Jewish life in Europe and providing aid to Jews and Jewish communities throughout the world during these post-war years, including facilitating emigration for Jews across the globe through its network of emigration offices and its cooperation with other international organizations such as the International Refugee Organization and Jewish organizations including the Jewish Agency and the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society.

These files also detail JDC’s extensive involvement in every facet of immigration to the fledgling State of Israel, from financing dramatic rescue operations which brought in waves of Jewish immigrants from around the world to developing programs and resources to facilitate immigrant integration into Israeli society.
